A jury of international experts has nominated 36 finalists out of 325 properties submitted from 26 Baumit countries. The winners will receive their awards on 14th of June 2018 at the Slowakian Philharmony in Bratislava.
Wopfing, April 3, 2018 – "In 2014, we extended the Baumit Life Challenge to cover the whole of Europe for the first time, in order to be able to present the countless creative opportunities that are now available in the design of façade surfaces and textures. The huge international interest in this award shown by architects, investors and applicators demanded an encore": This is how Robert Schmid, Managing Director of Baumit Beteiligungen GmbH, explained his decision to organise the Life Challenge Award every two years.
325 submissions from 26 countries – 36 nominations for the final in Bratislava
This year’s competition for the European Façade received entries for no fewer than 325 properties in 26 countries, which were to be evaluated by a jury of international experts. The competition entered its final phase at the end of March: The top façades for the shortlist were determined by the high calibre panel of experts via an online voting system. The shortlist consists of the six best façades in each of the six categories. The 36 nominees (architects, developers and construction companies) will be invited to the prize-giving ceremony of the Life Challenge Awards, to be held on 14th June 2018 in the Slowakian capital. "We are very excited about the final in Bratislava, where 13 international jury members will decide the winners and the overall winner of the Baumit Life Challenge on a points basis", explains Robert Schmid.
36 finalists nominated by the expert jury
Out of 325 emissions, the expert jury nominated 6 façades in each category for the grand final in Bratislava. Among the finalists Austria, Germany and Poland are leading with 5 nominations each, then Czech Republic and Spain with 4 projects. Three projects are in the finals from Slovakia, 2 from France, Romania and Slovenia. Finally Bulgaria, Greece, Hungary and Lithuania are represented with 1 project each.
Five categories, one special prize
The Life Challenge 2018 takes as its motto the phrase "Stunned by Texture". Along with the three categories of Single Family Home, Apartment Building and Non-Residential, and the two categories of Thermal Refurbishment and Historic Renovation, there is a special prize for properties with a special façade texture. The winners of the six categories will each receive € 6,600 in prize money. The overall winner can look forward to receiving a prize worth € 9,900. The prize money was not chosen at random, but is based on the fact that 66% of any façade can be built using Baumit products.
